Salem-Keizer Public Schools' budget committee has approved a $1.28 billion spending plan for the 2023-24 school year. That's slightly less than spending planned for the current school year, and falls short of what's needed, Superintendent Christy Perry said at a recent budget committee meeting. However, committee members made their decision with no real idea how much the district will actually have. As the budget committee was deliberating, legislative leaders announced they had agreed on a $10.
